Code of Conduct
Last updated: Draft — legal review pending
Surge Foundry is committed to a welcoming, safe, productive environment for everyone — regardless of background or experience. This Code applies to every space we run: the portal, community channels, reviews, chapters and events.
Our pledge
We pledge to make participation in the Surge Foundry community a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body size, visible or invisible disability, ethnicity, sex characteristics, gender identity and expression, level of experience, education, socio-economic status, nationality, personal appearance, race, caste, religion, or sexual identity and orientation.
We pledge to act and interact in ways that contribute to an open, welcoming, diverse, inclusive, and healthy community.
Our standards
Behaviour that builds a positive environment
- Using welcoming and inclusive language.
- Respecting differing viewpoints and experiences.
- Accepting constructive feedback gracefully.
- Focusing on what is best for the community.
- Showing empathy towards other community members.
- Acknowledging mistakes and learning from them.
Unacceptable behaviour
- The use of sexualised language or imagery and unwelcome sexual attention or advances.
- Trolling, insulting or derogatory comments, and personal or political attacks.
- Public or private harassment.
- Publishing others’ private information (physical address, email, phone number) without their explicit permission.
- Plagiarism — presenting someone else’s work, or AI-generated work you did not review and direct, as your own.
- Building products that are harmful, deceptive, or illegal, or that misuse personal data.
- Any other conduct which could reasonably be considered inappropriate in a professional setting.
Enforcement
Community administrators are responsible for clarifying and enforcing these standards. They have the right and responsibility to remove, edit, or reject contributions, comments, commits, code, issues, and other interactions that are not aligned with this Code of Conduct, and will communicate reasons for moderation decisions when appropriate.
Reporting
Report violations to conduct@surgefoundry.org. All reports are handled confidentially, with care for the safety and wellbeing of the person reporting.
- Anonymous reporting is available. You do not have to identify yourself.
- Retaliation against anyone who reports a concern or participates in an investigation is itself a violation of this Code and will be treated as such.
We will acknowledge your report within 48 hours and aim to respond with a resolution or next steps within 7 days.
Consequences
Community administrators will follow these guidelines in determining consequences:
- Correction. A private written notice clarifying the nature of the violation and why the behaviour was inappropriate. A public apology may be requested.
- Warning. A formal warning with defined consequences for continued behaviour. No interaction with the people involved for a specified period. Violations of these terms may lead to suspension.
- Temporary suspension. Temporary removal from all community spaces and activities for a defined period. No public or private interaction with the community during this time.
- Permanent ban. Permanent removal from all community spaces. A Product Passport may be revoked if the violation involved fraud, plagiarism, or harm.
